The Anointing
“The Anointing”
What is it?
The children of Israel wandering in the desert were given Manna, bread from Heaven, to eat every day. It only lasted one day and could not be stored up. The Word of God is “living Bread which came down from Heaven.” (John 6:51) It is planted into our hearts as we study. The soul, which is the mind, will, and emotions, is continually making contact with a fallen world; therefore, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2) As the children of Israel could not store up Manna, neither is receiving God’s Word a one-time exercise. You eat food everyday so that you can live on this earth. The real you, a spirit born from above, needs Word food. “Give us this day our daily bread.” And remember healing is the children’s bread. Selah
Now, how does bread relate to the anointing?
Jesus Christ
Christ is not the Lord’s last name. The title Christ signifies “The Anointed One” or Messiah.
Definition of anoint: rubbing or pouring olive oil on someone to represent the flow (empowering) of the Holy Spirit.
To anoint is different than the anointing, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil; for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38) Isaiah said, “And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.” (Isaiah 10:27) The yoke refers to bondage.
Read Luke 4:18-19 and you will see exactly how the anointing destroys yokes. But notice that the first thing Jesus did was preach from God’s Word written in Isaiah Chapter 61. Why? So that faith would come. “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17) Jesus, the Word made flesh, was dependent upon the written Word. Interesting isn’t it?
The Body of Christ: The Glorious Church
Jesus Christ moved to Heaven. But His Spirit resides on earth in every Believer. If you are born again and have been baptized in the Holy Spirit (see Acts 19:1-7) then you have the same anointing upon you to destroy yokes, not only on behalf of others but also for your own life.
The fullness of God’s anointing produces “life more abundantly.”
The Apostle John reveals the operation and impact of the anointing: believers are holy and separated to God. “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.”
(See 1 John 2:20-27)
The anointing operates or remains alive in you as “you abide in Him.”
The secret to spiritual strength is the inner-man connection to the Spirit of God…through His Word. No deposit, no return. Like the children in the desert had to go and get the Manna each day, God’s Word waits for us to search out the scriptures to receive our nourishment which electrifies the anointing to destroy yokes.
How does a healthy diet produce a healthy athlete to run his race all the way to the finish line? It just does.
This is why the discipline of daily prayer and study is SO vital. What takes place here in private will be seen and felt by you and others the rest of your day! But beware of the thief! You will have to guard your heart about what you watch, what you hear, who you fellowship with, and what you are saying and thinking about during your day. Stay in the praise lane. You can feel a decline in your anointing by a loss of joy.
“You have loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions." (Hebrews 1:9)
You’re Not the Vine – You’re the Branch
But realize this; the vine cannot bear fruit, only the branch can bear fruit. Jesus is as much dependent upon His church for The Awakening/Revival as we are upon Him. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
Do you see the results of going back into the world? Watch out because getting too close to the world will eventually lead to idolatry ... an exaltation of self that produces doubt over Jesus and His Word.
This is how faith crumbles and mountains don’t move.
“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” (John 15:5-7) “For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” (Mark 11:23) A faith-filled intercessor has the power of the Sword of the Spirit in their in their mouth…
Praying in Tongues and The Anointing
Those who pray in tongues and stay in tongues experience the direct line into the heart of God. Jesus referred to this as a river, and everyone knows that when you jump into a river you get wet …“out of His heart will flow rivers of living water.” That’s the anointing! John the Baptist said, “… He (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” That’s the anointing!
It abides inward then goes outward to manifest the Kingdom of God on earth. “…for in Him we live and move and have our being ...” (Acts 17:28)
This is that …
which Joel prophesied about the Day of Pentecost.
“And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh …” (Joel 2:28)
